Behavioral Profiling Conflict (Boards) - Team building

zł0+

Conflicts are an inherent part of human interactions, both in private and professional life. Although some conflicts may stimulate progress and innovation, undoubtedly many of them lead to adverse consequences. For this reason, it is essential to develop methods that allow not only for effective conflict management, but primarily for their prevention. Behavioral profiling offers unique tools that help understand the motivations, behaviors, and predispositions of individuals in various contexts. With this knowledge, we can better predict potential sources of conflict and intervene before the situation escalates, identify early warning signals, and create an environment where conflicts are minimized through better understanding and respect for diversity.

Profiling with MBTI (a psychological tool used to assess personality; created by Isabel Briggs Myers and Katharine Cook Briggs, based on psychological theories developed by Carl Gustav Jung) has many supporters and just as many critics. Even Michał Cakrt himself sheds light on various perspectives on how to perceive this tool in his book 'Who is Who. Personality Types for Managers.' In my opinion, nothing in life should be treated as a binary choice of 0 or 1, or as an absolute truth. Life encompasses too many shades of grey. Therefore, MBTI tests or any others are seen more as a starting point for self-reflection and discussion (sometimes very lively and amusing), from my perspective.

The aim of the Thomas-Kilmann test is to examine people's attitudes in conflict situations. The indicators are two basic traits such as assertiveness and cooperativeness. The Thomas-Kilmann test is a performance-based test because it requires the analysis and development of data, unlike standard tests which are only meant to provide information.

Who can use it?

There are no restrictions. Anyone who works with people on a daily basis, manages them, guides them or teaches them can use it.

In which industries is it worth applying?

There are no restrictions. In any industry where work relies on collaboration between individuals or teams, Behavioral profiling MBTI can be applied. This tool is suitable for workshops or retrospectives, whether with an IT team or students in a classroom collaborating on an educational project.

When is it worth using Behavioral profiling MBTI?

Most often at the beginning of working with a team, but not only. It's worth paying attention to this tool also when facing impediments such as:

  • lack of teamwork,
  • lack of trust,
  • lack of communication,
  • frequent conflicts

Why is it worth using it?

To demonstrate that we are not a monolith. We are not all the same. To emphasize our differences. As a starting point for discussion about emerging conflicts and to develop basic, universally acceptable conflict resolution principles.

Why is it important?

Thanks to such tools, people find it easier to talk about their preferences and views on conflict. This allows managers to manage work consciously and understand how others work. Moreover, it enables the recognition of different behavior patterns.
